The 13th Annual Pittsburgh Open was held on 23-25th March, 2012, at the Doubletree Hotel Pittsburgh Green Tree, 101 Radisson Drive, Pittsburgh.
The event had 5 sections: Open, Under 2100, Under 1800, Under 1500, and Under 1200.
All sections were 5 round Swiss tournaments with 3-day and 2-day schedules to play in.
Grandmasters Alexander Shabalov, Tamaz Gelashvili and Alex Ivanov finished at the top of the Open Section, all concluding the race with an undefeated 4/5. However, Shabalov took the title and some additional money by finishing with the best tie-breaks.
The event had a $12,000 projected prize fund with $9,000 guaranteed.
