Indians dominated at Asian youth chess championship

The Asian Youth Chess Championships 2012 that concluded at Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka saw India sweeping to the top of the table with a huge haul of medals in the classical, rapid and blitz sections. Tamil Nadu, the powerhouse of Indian chess, grabbed the lion's share of medals, helping India remain on top ahead of China, Vietnam and Iran.

Tamil Nadu's R Vaishali with a 7.5/8 score won the Gold in the Asian Under-12 girls event with a round to spare. A student of Velammal, Vaishali is trained by Thyagarajan. Vaishali's brother R Praggnanandhaa won the gold Under-8 Boys section, bagging two Gold medals from the family. Both are students of Bloom Chess Academy. 

In the blitz section, Tamil Nadu's U. Ashwini snatched the GOLD with a cent percent 7/7 score in the Under-14 section for girls.

In classical chess we got 5-6-7 (gold/silver/bronze), in rapid chess India won 5-8-5 (gold/silver/bronze) and in blitz chess we secured 6-5-5 (gold/silver/bronze) medals.

BRONZE - J Saranya (U-18, girls), Michelle Catherina (U-16, girls), G K Monnisha (U-14, girls), Karthikeyan Murali (U-14), C.M.N. Sunyuktha (U-12, girls), Rakshitta Ravi (U-8, girls).
Rapid medals
GOLD - Aravindh Chithambaram (Under-14).
Blitz medals

GOLD - L N Ram Aravind (U-10), R Vaishali (U-12, girls), U. Ashwini (U-14, girls), J. Saranya (U-18, girls).
SILVER - Bala Kannamma (U-18, girls), Meenu Priya (U-16, girls), Karthikeyan Murali (U-14).
BRONZE - M. Mahalakshmi (U-14, girls)
