Aravind and Vaishali Emerged Champion in 25th TN State U-11 Chess Championship


Castrol 25th TN State Chess Championship for U 11 boys & girls was held in Dharani Matriculation School, Mannargudi from 22nd ot 28th April. The official qualifying event for National had attracted around 137 boys from 31 districts & 78 girls from 24 districts. The one week event was organized by Tiruvarur District Chess Association under the aegis of Tamilnadu State Chess Association. The championship was inaugurated by Shri Kaveri Ranganathan ,President, Farmers Welfare Asssociation in presence of Elayaraja,Administrator,Dharani Matric,Santhakumar,President , TDCA. R K Balagunasekharan , Organising Secy welcomed the gathering.

CM V S Ratanvel of Coimbatore and R Vaishali of Chennai were the top seeds in the respective sections. At the end of the 5th round Rathanvel and Tarun Kanth were leading with 5 pts. Rathanvel took the sole lead by beating Tarun in the 6th round. M Aravind stopped Rathanvel’s domination in the 7th round. Meanwhile Iniyan of Erode was chasing the leader, but in the end Aravind won the Boys title with 9.5 points. Iniyan ended with similar 9.5 points and was placed 2nd with lesser tie break scores. Rathanvel finished 3rd with 9 points. Aravind of Chennai, Iniyan of Erode, Rathanvel of Coimbatore , A Ra Harikrishnan of Tiruvallur & S Jayakumar of Chennai will represent TN in U11 National Championship to be held at Jharkand from 5th August.
In the girls section the expressive R Vaishali was unstoppable with an impressive score of 10 points shedding 2 draws to GPS Sneha and Tejasvi in the latter rounds. Vaishali ,Arthika & Subalakshmi of Chennai, GPS Sneha of NLC,Priyanka of Tirupur will represent TN State Nationals.
Prizes were distributed by guests of honors Shri N Govindarajan, PDG, Rotary Dt 2980 and by Shri Muralimohan, General Secretary , TNSCA. N Santhakumar, presided over the function.
